Things I've learnt lately:

  • human excrement is incredibly slippery
  • I love Domestos
  • I also love face masks
  • Cillit Bang is useful only as a psychological cleaning chemical i.e. it stinks of bleach and makes your eyes water but doesn't actually get anything clean
  • Drain Unblocking People are super-awesome
  • the guy upstairs uses pink toilet paper
  • if you whimper and tell someone you have OCD it's quite possible they'll take pity on you and try to help clean up instead of leaving you to it like all his other customers [what an angel]
  • when my housing association say they're coming out to do an emergency repair that day, don't expect them to actually do anything for at least another three years
  • it's surprising how quickly the feeling of terror at hearing running water can be ingrained into a person
  • it's easier to clean shit off walls with a mop than with a cloth
  • Sainsbury's still sell Arctic Rolls

  1. Oh Ali, I'm sorry you've had such a shitty voyage of discovery today, enjoy the arctic roll- wash it down with some wine, that'll make you feel better.

Pink toilet paper?!? Strictly a white bogroll girl myself.

  2. Arctic rolls are an instant journey to childhood, I couldn't resist picking one up when I saw them. I think the wine accompaniment is a splendid idea! :D

[BTW the one in that pic isn't mine, mine is still in the box in the freezer and won't look half as sophisticated and pretty as that one does]

  4. OK, I need to know what kind of mop. Anything that makes a task easier is good in my book.

  5. Well Sharon, I'm always happy to share my cleaning-shit-from-walls expertise!
I started with one similar to this Mop One with lots of changes of water/detergent/bleach.
And then used one like this Mop Two with more detergent and stuff. Then finally went over with another Mop Two but with a clean, dry head to dry the walls off. Mop One is a bucket mop, Mop Two is basically a cloth on a stick. Can't wring it out easily but it's bloody brilliant at sorting walls out.
